About me

A native of Oakland, California, Corey Damon Lillard grew up in a family of eight in East Oakland during the 1980s, a pivotal time in the city’s history. Despite facing numerous setbacks and hardships throughout his childhood, Corey persevered. At the age of 27, he recognized the incredible narrative of triumph and transformation within his own life. Motivated by his passion for aiding others, particularly the youth in Oakland, he penned and published his story to inspire and empower individuals to overcome their own obstacles.

Corey firmly advocates for the holistic development of individuals, emphasizing the integration of mental, physical, and spiritual well-being. He imparts his wisdom by guiding others to fuse mental and spiritual fortitude with physical vitality through rigorous training and bodybuilding.

Beyond his personal pursuits, Corey is a devoted father to three daughters. He presently resides in Oakland, dedicating much of his time to community engagement and enrichment initiatives.

You can often find Corey at his book signings and public speaking engagements, where he shares his story and insights with audiences. Additionally, he serves as the current Chairman of the longest-running Martin Luther King Jr. Multicultural Rally in the Bay Area, further solidifying his commitment to fostering inclusivity and social progress.

I was able to complete this book in 2 days. It was very well written, relatable and captured my attention. My favorite part of the book was when Corey explained how he felt during your transformation. How he realized that he did not have to live his life based on what he witnessed growing up and how he changed the narrative of his life. I salute Corey on his journey. Remain positive. Hardships in life are inevitable and how we handle them determines the kind of journey we'll have in life and how others around us will be impacted. We can throw in the towel or decide that we're going to live. In his inspirational, transparent and down to earth language, Corey encourages us to choose love, life, and light, even though faced with some of life's hard knocks. Absolutely engaging, tear jerking and awe-inspiring book. This book helped me understand some of the situations that I have been encountering in my own journey helping others overcome their shadows. We all have different experiences in life, but it comes down to how we handle those experiences with the ones we love, that will help us have an amazing or destructive life. In his book, Corey gives us his life's own journey, and he guides us through how he allowed and welcomed our Creator, to transform those experiences into a powerful light of transformation and wisdom. I read this book less than four hours at work...Once you start it grabs you in. It begins with sadness but you will end the book with a clear and positive state of mind. A few great chapters, " Standard Love, Transition, and Forgiveness" open all kinds of emotions, past experience, and current situations for myself.
